This book definitely surprised me - turning out to be far better than expected.Dublin residents Yvonne and Simon are getting married. Yvonne wants an "amazing" wedding and goes way off the deep end planning it. It becomes her sole obsession and I'm sure every reader would love to smack some sense into her. But life intervenes.
Yvonne's first hurdle is a future sister-in-law who is sure her brother is making a mistake. Then, one of Yvonne's girlfriends begins acting strangely, and an old pal of hers (male) tries his best to disappear. Simon's ex reappears with a real-life problem that only Simon can solve. And things get more and more twisted out of shape.... Yvonne finally gets smacked by her surroundings - actually, "smacked" is an understatement.
This book has an intricate plot that moves from the very straightforward to the highly complex. It became better and better as the book proceeded.
Problem: Yvonne's detailed wedding preparations still drove me up the wall...perhaps the conflict could have been introduced earlier before many readers bailed out...

I loved this book right from the start. Yvonne and Simon just want to get married but its not going to be an easy ride for them. Yvonne finds it hard to stay within the agreed budget. One of her best friends is a real bitch and just cant be happy for Yvonne. Then there is Simons sister, what a monster! She does her best to come between them. A blast form the past comes back to haunt Simon. What else can go wrong? It was a roller coaster ride of a story with a lot of bitches and bastards added to the mix, characters you love to hate and love them all over again. Plenty of laughs, tears and drama, a book well,worth reading.
Typical story of over-zealous, attention-loving and self-centred bride-to-be of our time.
Despite really having it good (in family, friends [one or two zany exceptions], fiance and material terms), Yvonne is really not a very likeable person.
Never mind the journey of her wedding countdown, she has considerable travelling of her own to do before being considered an adjusted, well-rounded, human being, not to mention a considered partner to her more level-headed and grounded fiance, Simon.
Nothing like twists and turns of life (back-stabbing office politics, sackings, back-stabbing in-laws-to-be, self-absorbed friends, the shamed ex come back to prominence with hitherto secret child, the life-threatening illness).
This series of pre-wedding events sounds more exhausting and draining than any bootcamp, bridal or military!
The author's principal character deals with all this and more - and gets her happy ending!

The title of this book does not truly do the book justice. This is a story of a whirling engagement overwhelmed with a bit of a bridezilla, a snotty sister in law, and some gut wrenching friend issues. And oh the tragedy of the perfect dress!
Yvonne and Simon begin the book proposing to each other, which was a very sweet cute moment…and then Yvonne goes a little crazy with the wedding, and the money, all while trying to juggle a heavy load and a sour manager at work. This is only the beginning of all she faces in her story. I won’t give anything away, but all that she faces she still seems a little caught up in making the wedding a perfect day.
I enjoyed this story; I struggled with wanting to hurt a few people during it, and could not imagine being faced with some of the problems that arise! It truly seems like the two come up against every imaginable odd. But can true love conquer all?
I will not lie, Rachel was a very hard character to like! But as in life there is so much more to why a person does the things they do when you realize the reasons behind it all.
This is truly a story of growth and change, and love and complex relationships. It was well written and easy to read.
This book will take you on a true roller coaster from one page to the next!

Ugh! I'm 25% through this book and I can't read another page. The bride to be is totally self centered and continually lies to her fiancé. Her future sister-in-law is a total witch and her friends are irritating. So far the only person I can even stand is the poor fool who wants to marry this twit.......although I still have no idea why. This one is going to be deleted before I waste another minute on it!
This book frustrated the heck out of me Yvonne she is so self absorbed it was driving me crazy. I know brides get all sucked into planning a wedding and this gal definitely went over the top. Now the writing is well done especially with all the other twists and turns thrown into this Irish setting- being Irish I did think that was cool. But overall it was a hard read for me to get thru.
This is a great story line about the disasters that can happen when planning a wedding. I can see a few of the things happening, but wow does it get a little unrealistic and excessive. I guess it doesn't help when your not rooting for any of the characters, the bride is completely full of herself and ignores the groom. The groom ignores the bride, cheats..., and all kinds of other fun characteristics. Then you have the friends, who encourage their relationship falling apart, or the shady aspects of them. Over all a Money Pit type scenario would have been hysterical. But it was just too much for me.
